Mr. Mumbaikar, meet Mr. Gama!

As a Mumbaikar, when we meet another Mumbaikar, how does your conversion sound like?

Me: hey, where do you live?

Mumbaikar: Kalyan man!

Me: Dude! How much do you travel?

Mumbaikar: 2 hours every day man!  I change 2 trains!

Now imagine having the same conversation in the 15th century with Vasco Da Gama or Amerigo Vespucci.

Me: Hey, where do you live?

He: Portugal / Italy my man!

Me: Good God! How much do you travel?

He: Ho Ho Ho! I think it took me 3 years to explore South America.. So it’s just about that much!

That’s how abused the term ‘TRAVEL’ is, in the Mumbai context. Travel doesn’t mean exploring new BEST routes or discovering how different seasons bring our different odours in men. Seriously!

Travel is about exploring new cultures that emanate from geographic & demographic differences. Travel is about discovering the region’s people, flora & fauna in just one bite of their home-cooked food. Travel is about re-discovering yourself through the vast & varied experiences we come across.

Traveling is NOT traveling in Mumbai. Period!
