Hello blogging. I am back after a hiatus as life has been a roller coaster for the past few months. Blogging, which I had taken up consciously ended up on a back-burner which I wasn’t very happy about but had nothing to do about it. My trip to Delhi made me think if that is a function of a city?
Living in Mumbai makes you rock solid & impenetrable. It forces you to be focused & ambitious. If you aren’t the city mocks you in the face with a glimpse of the millions of others who have migrated to Mumbai leaving their comfortable life & families behind. It’s a humbling mechanism of the city to tell you to appreciate what you have in this city because there are others who have just landed here & can whisk away everything you have if aren’t fast enough in the race.
This trip to Delhi, made me realize, life is not only about populating it with a house, car, fat bank account or a high flying job. Life could also be about cherishing moments, appreciating art, relishing food & the smaller things in life that happen to you in Delhi but won’t in Mumbai because we are either travelling with an arm pit stuck right in your nose or you are braving the traffic & thinking about the next signal you will get stuck at.
What makes this difference so apparent? Both the cities are equally metropolitan with career opportunities & higher standards of living. Maybe it’s the food, where Delhi offers you cuisine that is more an art than a function. May be it’s the culture, where a regular Mumbaikar might be a Maharashtrian or a Gujarati whose high point in life might be a family wedding or a new business venture rather than a regular Delhite whose high point is the thought of getting high the next night on some premium scotch & Tandoori Chicken. Delhi is laced with a joie-de-vivre that is no infectious that you revel in it in the initial days & you get wary of getting carried away by it in the later days.
How can it bad to live life to the fullest? Is it that important to be driven all the time without enjoying what you’re earning?
